The Hawkinsville Red Devils were the 69-60 winner over the Wilcox County Patriots when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Hawkinsville fell 50-39 to the Patriots on Saturday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Hawkinsville has scored all season.
Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Darius Anderson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 19 rebounds. Anderson is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least ten every time he's taken the court this season. Martin Mcdonald was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Wilcox County was led to victory by Londarius King and Alonzo Benjamin. King dropped a double-double on 15 points and 21 rebounds, while Benjamin almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. King also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Aundre Benjamin, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Hawkinsville are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-6. As for Wilcox County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-10 record this season.
Hawkinsville will head out on the road to face off against the Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Dodge County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully the Red Devils likes a good challenge. As for Wilcox County, they and the Cougars will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Crisp County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Saturday.
