Softball Recap: Lakewood Ranch Extends Winning Streak to Three

Lakewood Ranch had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Riverview Sharks with a sharp 8-2 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mustangs also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2021.

Lexi Meneely made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Olivia Shephard was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendal McCoy, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Lakewood Ranch hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 4-2 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Lakewood Ranch pushed their record up to 6-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Riverview, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.

Lakewood Ranch has already played their next game, a 20-0 win against Bayshore on the 28th. As for Riverview, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-1 victory against Lennard on the 27th.
