The Kossuth Aggies will head out on the road to challenge the Pontotoc Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Kossuth gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 7-2 win over Corinth. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Aggies.
Hallie Kate Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits.
At the plate, Madison Mitchell was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Caliann Mitchell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Kossuth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corinth only managed six.
Meanwhile, Pontotoc posted their closest victory since April 15, 2025 on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Corinth 7-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Mattie Sims Koon tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2025.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Star Williams, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Claire Gravat also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Kossuth now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Pontotoc, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Kossuth hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Pontotoc struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Kossuth came up short against Pontotoc in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, falling 10-5. Can the Aggies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
