Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Italy

Italy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Meridian Yellowjackets with a sharp 15-0 victory. Considering the Gladiators have won eight matchups by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Meridian's batters probably weren't too happy with Kacey Stewart, who pitched a no hitter (she gave up two walks).

On the hitting side, Addy Slovak was a standout: she scored three runs and stole Four bases. while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Olivia Ramirez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Italy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .607 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Italy's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Meridian, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Italy will welcome Itasca at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Italy knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Itasca likes a good challenge. As for Meridian, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Frost at 5:30 p.m. Meridian has given up an average of 17.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
