After five lead changes,
El Toro (Lake Forest, Calif.) took the lead for good when
Jacob Furnari thew a touchdown to
Conner Manning with 5:00 to go in the fourth quarter and held on to upset
Tesoro (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) 41-31 on Saturday.
The Titans pulled ahead on a touchdown, and subsequently went into halftime leading 17-14. The Chargers scored the winning points with a touchdown pass by Furnari to Manning that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring 13 points in the third, El Toro still trailed by 3 points going into the fourth quarter. But 14 points in the fourth helped ET pull out the victory.
Manning stood out for the Lake Forest school in the win. The senior quarterback threw four touchdowns and caught one touchdown. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.
Preston Hendry played well for Tesoro. The sophomore wide receiver ran for four touchdowns.
THS came in surrendering 14.0 points per game this season. The Rancho Santa Margarita school struggled against the Chargers' offense, which entered the game scoring 49.9 points per game.
The loss comes after Tesoro defeated Trabuco Hills 35-28 last week.
In a South Coast game next week El Toro (8-0) takes on Trabuco Hills, and Tesoro (6-1) will go up against Mission Viejo also in a South Coast game.
