The Columbia Cougars lost against the West Orange Mountaineers last Thursday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Columbia had to suffer through a rough 72-24 loss at the hands of West Orange. Columbia has not had much luck with West Orange recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
West Orange's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anaya Karriem led the charge by dropping a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Karriem is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Francis-Bunkley, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Columbia has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for West Orange, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbia will take on Randolph at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Orange, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Caldwell at 4:00 p.m. on January 30th. Caldwell will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings (they are ranked 67th, while West Orange is ranked 16th).
