The Archbishop Ryan Raiders and Ragdolls will head out to face off against the Conwell-Egan Catholic Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Archbishop Ryan will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Archbishop Ryan's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Lansdale Catholic.
The result came thanks to Sean Cahill's shutout, as he gave up just six hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Archbishop Ryan saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Marchesano, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Conwell-Egan Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against Central by a score of 6-3 on Thursday.
Joey Ortiz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. He is becoming a predictor of Conwell-Egan Catholic's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Denny Fife, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Connor Landau was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
The victory got Conwell-Egan Catholic back to even at 7-7. As for Archbishop Ryan, their record now sits at 13-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Archbishop Ryan has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Conwell-Egan Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Archbishop Ryan came up short against Conwell-Egan Catholic in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 6-1. Can the Raiders and Ragdolls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
