It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Champaign Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Meridian Hawks. Winning may never get old, but the Maroons sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.
Haley Helm made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over eight innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Molly Kloeppel was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Grace Bandy was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
