The Delta Rabbits will venture away from home to face off against the Richfield Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Delta has given up an average of 9.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Delta is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Parowan just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 11-4 to the Rams.
Elcie Shurtz was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Fallon Johnson, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Richfield made easy work of Parowan on Saturday and carried off a 14-6 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Kolbi Viers made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Kayla Nielson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Abby Pedersen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Richfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 9-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Richfield is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Delta, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Delta hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Richfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .413. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Delta might still be hurting after the 14-2 defeat they got from Richfield when the teams last played back in March. Can the Rabbits avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
