The Brunswick Pirates scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They came out on top against South Effingham by a score of 83-72. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Leading Brunswick to victory were Craig Battle and Caleb Butler. Battle scored 22 points along with six rebounds and four steals, while Butler scored 18 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Butler hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Joshua Daniel, who scored 12 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
South Effingham's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Corbin McGuire, who scored 27 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McGuire has scored all season. Aidan Harris was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Brunswick's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-13. As for South Effingham, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-17.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brunswick will square off against Hilton Head Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hilton Head Christian Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Brunswick in their respective states (Hilton Head Christian Academy is ranked 130th in South Carolina, while Brunswick is ranked 282nd in Georgia). As for South Effingham, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lakeside at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Lakeside has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 188 points over their last three matchups.
