Lourdes Academy and Ferguson are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. Lourdes Academy will be playing at home against Ferguson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lourdes Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Lourdes Academy came up short against Palmer Trinity and fell 6-1. Lourdes Academy hasn't had much luck with Palmer Trinity recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Lourdes Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Valerie Portuondo, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Ferguson was not the first on the board on Monday, but they got there more often. They had just enough and edged out Miami Country Day 9-8. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Falcons.
Lily Berardinelli spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Briana Canahuate and Andreaneliz Rivera did most of the damage at the plate: Canahuate scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5, while Rivera scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave Rivera a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amaya Santamaria, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Lourdes Academy's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Ferguson, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lourdes Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ferguson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lourdes Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Ferguson when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 11-8. Does Lourdes Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ferguson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
