Academy recap Sept. 26, 2012
Harrison Ray and Sam Masarik provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Bishop's. The connection went for 67 yards, the longest such play in Academy this season.
Crean Lutheran moved up to 927 from 1,007 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Saints climbed the ranks as a result of a 34-20 win over Arrowhead Christian.
Sage Hill's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ray threw for 101 and one touchdown and Masarik had 67 yards receiving. On the ground Joe Melita chipped in 44 yards. Beau Roth helped Sage Hill's passing attack out by catching six balls for 34 yards.
Brethren Christian's Jack McInally and Austin Gorrell have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. McInally has thrown for 762 yards this season, while Gorrell, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 14 catches for 266 yards. The Lightning's Melita leads the league in rushing yards with 497.
Crean Lutheran made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 12,781 from 14,038. The improvement came about via a 34-20 victory over the Eagles last week.
