Ames extended the longest winning streak in 4A Division 2 this week by beating Ankeny, 48-18. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
The Hawks lost to Ames 48-18 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Johnston's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mike Mahanna threw for 139 and 3 touchdowns and Andrew Heuss had 85 yards receiving. On the ground Jordan Weddington contributed 210 yards. Will Bjorholm helped Johnston's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 11 yards.
He was 8-24 with 1 interception.
Weddington was a beast in the backfield as the Dragons beat Sioux City North.
Weddington provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Johnston defeated the Stars. Weddington's favorite target this week was Heuss, who caught 2 passes for 85 yards.
Weddington was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 210 yards on 39 carries as Brian Woodley's team bested Sioux City North. Teammate Mahanna added to the ground attack by rushing for 11 yards.
Johnston's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Dragons feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Mahanna has thrown for 1,095 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Heuss has 32 catches for 662 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bruce Vertanen's team takes on Des Moines North. The Little Cyclones are currently in first, while the Polar Bears are in sixth.
