Rock Hill hasn't had much luck against Ironton recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Redmen will take on the Fighting Tigers at 5:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Rock Hill came out on top against South Point on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Redmen put the hurt on the Pointers with a sharp 8-2 win. The Redmen not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 7th (when they won 6-0).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ironton). Everything went their way against Chesapeake on Monday as they made off with a 20-3 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Fighting Tigers, who have now won seven contests in a row.
Aubrey Ferguson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Ferguson was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Khamil Martin, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had over her last 11 matches. Ryleigh Kouns was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Ironton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are a perfect 14-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
The victory made it two in a row for Rock Hill and bumps their season record up to 7-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Ironton, their record is now 16-3.
Rock Hill came up short against Ironton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 9-5. Can the Redmen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
