East Webster is 0-4 against Caledonia since April of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Wolverines will look to defend their home field against the Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. East Webster's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Caledonia's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
East Webster's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Aberdeen. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
Lawson Quinn made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Quinn was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.
In other pitching news, Garrett White looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
East Webster always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .950. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Caledonia's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They came up short against Itawamba Agricultural, falling 12-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cavaliers have suffered against the Indians since March 5, 2016.
Caledonia saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Dawkins, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Dawkins has become a key player for the Cavaliers: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise.
East Webster pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Caledonia, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8.
East Webster couldn't quite get it done against Caledonia in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 as they fell 5-1. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
