The Dayton Dust Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Carson Senators at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dayton is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
On Saturday, Dayton made easy work of Truckee and carried off a 7-1 victory. Considering the Dust Devils have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Donnita Wass spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kiley Paterson, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two RBI, and one run. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Esmeralda Hernandez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Dayton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Carson beat Reno 6-1 on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Senators in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won five in a row.
Carson also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Madison Blanchard-Salazar gave up only one earned run on three hits. That's the fewest earned runs Blanchard-Salazar has allowed since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, Sofia Morrison was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Jordan Brubaker was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Dayton's record is now 9-0. As for Carson, they now have a winning record of 5-4-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dayton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .544. However, it's not like Carson struggles in that department as they've averaged .403. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dayton might still be hurting after the 14-4 loss they got from Carson in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can Dayton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
