The Valley Vikings's seven-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They came out on top against Sunrise Mountain by a score of 74-66. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elijah Flowers, who scored 21 points along with seven assists. Flowers hasn't dropped below 15 points for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Shufford, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Sunrise Mountain lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elijah Redic. Despite the final result, he scored 23 points along with nine rebounds. Redic has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Brice Wilson was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals.
Valley's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-15. As for Sunrise Mountain, they dropped their record down to 6-14 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Valley will head out on the road to take on Cheyenne at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Cheyenne is ranked 67th, while Valley is ranked 50th). As for Sunrise Mountain, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Basic at 6:30 p.m. on January 29th. Basic knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully Sunrise Mountain likes a good challenge.
