San Gabriel was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Polytechnic work for it, especially in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-17, 27-25.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for San Marino, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Polytechnic 3-2.
San Marino wouldn't go down easily and took Polytechnic into a fifth set where they got it done with a four-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 25-17, 23-25, 23-25, 15-11.
San Gabriel better focus on containing Ryan Lee and Casey Chan as the pair were huge in San Marino's win. Lee had 18 digs and two assists, while Chan had 21 kills, six digs, and one block. Chan has been hot, having posted 11 or more kills the last five times he's played.
San Marino was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That's the most aces they've posted since the start of last season.
San Marino's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-4. As for San Gabriel, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
San Gabriel took their victory against San Marino in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 3-0. Will San Gabriel repeat their success, or does San Marino have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
