Chaparral has gone 7-2 against Ponderosa recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Wolverines will face off against the Mustangs at 4:15 p.m. Chaparral is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Chaparral barely beat Rock Canyon the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wolverines blew past the Jaguars 11-5 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Chaparral got a massive performance out of Luke Branson, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave Branson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madden Kretzer, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Chaparral was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rock Canyon only posted a batting average of .219.
Meanwhile, Ponderosa came tearing into Thursday's contest with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Titans by a score of 5-1.
Brady Rossi tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Caleb Korth was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Jackson Blackadar was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.
Chaparral's record now sits at 10-5. As for Ponderosa, their record is now 11-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Chaparral hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Ponderosa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Chaparral came out on top in a nail-biter against Ponderosa when the teams last played back in April of 2025, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
