The Canyon View Jaguars will take on the Churchill Lancers in a tournament on Tuesday. Canyon View's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Churchill's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Canyon View took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against Ridgeview by a score of 4-1.
Eli McBryde and Colin Mowrey did most of the damage at the plate: McBryde scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Mowrey went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Berlan, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Churchill got the win against Rancho Christian on Monday by a conclusive 17-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lancers.
Jace Litten made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That one hit allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Parker Emmons looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Brady Bousquet, who went 2-for-3 with six RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayden Arbogast, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Churchill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rancho Christian only posted an OBP of .211.
Canyon View pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Churchill, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
