Two dominant signal callers in Derek Lagway and Darius Bailey are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Willis Wildkats will head out on the road to face off against the DeSoto Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Willis sitting on 12 straight wins and DeSoto on 18 (dating back to last season).
With a playoff game on the line, Willis rose to the challenge on Friday. Everything went their way against Tomball Memorial as Willis made off with a 42-21 win. The result was nothing new for Willis, who have now won ten matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Lagway and Jermaine Bishop jr were among the main playmakers for Willis as the former threw for 462 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt and the latter picked up 294 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Bishop jr's longest reception was for an incredible 76 yards.
Meanwhile, DeSoto can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They put the hurt on Wylie East with a sharp 42-20 win. Given DeSoto's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked first, while Wylie East is ranked 75th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead DeSoto to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bailey, who threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Daylon Singleton was another key contributor, picking up 194 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Willis has yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 12-0 record. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Cleveland and 1-9 Temple (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.8% over those games). As for DeSoto, their victory bumped their record up to 11-0.
