Corliss has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Tilden Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Corliss: 24.5, Tilden: 16.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
Last Friday, Corliss came up short against Hancock and fell 28-15.
Meanwhile, Tilden put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 47-25 margin over Harlan. Given Tilden's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 249th, while Harlan is ranked 544th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tilden can attribute much of their success to Rachel Ruiz, who scored 15 points along with six steals. That's the first time this season that Ruiz grabbed two or more steals. Another player making a difference was Antonella Villegas-Sarmiento, who scored nine points.
Corliss' defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 5-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.0 points per game. As for Tilden, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-2.
Corliss took their win against Tilden when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 35-11. The rematch might be a little tougher for Corliss since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
