Bruton is 0-10 against New Kent since April of 2019 but things could change on Wednesday. The Panthers will host the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Bruton has given up an average of 9.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bruton is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They came up short against Grafton, falling 12-1.
Bruton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Kelly, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, New Kent entered their tilt with Tabb on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 8-1 victory. Considering the Trojans have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Robert Matthew Gentry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, New Kent let Michael Hetzel and Andrew Staskiel run wild. Hetzel went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Staskiel went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs. Those two runs gave Staskiel a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Uzzle, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
New Kent kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
New Kent pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bruton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
Bruton might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from New Kent in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Panthers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
