Grassfield is a perfect 4-0 against Woodside since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Grizzlies will take on the Wolverines at 1:00 p.m. Grassfield is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
Grassfield barely beat Nansemond River the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Grizzlies blew past the Warriors 11-1 on Thursday. The Grizzlies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Giacomo Franco made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Grassfield let Cayden McBride and BJ McIntyre run wild. McBride went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while McIntyre went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. That double was McIntyre's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Josh Nelson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Grassfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.4.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Woodside, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Denbigh 9-8 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolverines have posted since March 21, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Shaquan Patrick, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Woodside: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Richard Jones was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Grassfield pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Woodside, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season.
Everything went Grassfield's way against Woodside in their previous meeting back in May of 2016, as Grassfield made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
