Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Kyle McCord of
St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia) is the 2020 MaxPreps Pennsylvania High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound senior quarterback led the Hawks to a 6-0 record and third consecutive state championship this season.
McCord capped his career by completing 21 of 28 pass attempts for 336 yards and four touchdowns in the Class 6A title game against Central York. St. Joseph's Prep went 31-2 in his three seasons as a starter.
The future Ohio State Buckeye broke Philadelphia Catholic League career records for passing yards (6,887) and touchdown passes (88).
247Sports rated McCord as the No. 3 quarterback prospect in the Class of 2021 nationally and No. 25 prospect regardless of position. Michigan, North Carolina and Penn State were among other programs to extend offers.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.
