South Point dropped down to 16-7 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Ironton Fighting Tigers by a score of 6-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 back in April.
Kota Copley was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Copley was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
In other batting news, Adyson Copley made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
As for Ironton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.
On Ironton's side, Ava Bihl spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 14 Ks.
