Winston County is 10-0 against Sumiton Christian since December of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Winston County Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Sumiton Christian Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Winston County is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Winston County on the road against Addison as the squad secured a 71-32 victory.
Winston County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lynleigh Cobb led the charge by dropping a double-double on 26 points and 10 rebounds. Cobb has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Kate Veal, who went 7 for 14 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 3 assists.
Even though Sumiton Christian has not done well against Curry recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Sumiton Christian had just enough and edged Curry out 42-40. The win was just what Sumiton Christian needed coming off of a 69-26 defeat in their prior game.
Winston County's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Sumiton Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Winston County was able to grind out a solid victory over Sumiton Christian in their previous matchup back in January of 2022, winning 79-70. The rematch might be a little tougher for Winston County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
