West Aurora is a perfect 6-0 against Larkin since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Blackhawks will face off against the Royals at 4:30 p.m. West Aurora will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
On Saturday, West Aurora got the win against Schaumburg by a conclusive 12-3. The result was nothing new for the Blackhawks, who have now won 15 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Cooper Matheny tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
On the hitting side, Zach Toma was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Atkins, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
West Aurora kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.
West Chicago hit Larkin with a six-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Royals lost 14-1 to the Wildcats. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Royals couldn't push the score so high this time.
West Aurora's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Larkin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 14 of their last 16 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-24 record this season.
Larkin's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Aurora has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. It's a different story for Larkin, though, as they've only averaged .295. Will they be able to contain West Aurora's hitters?
West Aurora skirted past Larkin 6-5 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Do the Blackhawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Royals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
