Flagstaff is 8-2 against Prescott since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles will host the Badgers at 3:45 p.m. Flagstaff will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
On Monday, Flagstaff needed a bit of extra time to put away Deer Valley. They had just enough and edged out the Skyhawks 5-4.
Cailee Culwell spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on 11 hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tatum Alex, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Prescott got themselves on the board against Westview on Monday, but Westview never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over the Knights. The win was some much needed relief for the Badgers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Gracie Pereira made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Lilly James was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Haley James was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.
Prescott kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 10.
Flagstaff's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-6-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Prescott, their victory bumped their record up to 5-9.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Flagstaff hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like Prescott struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
