AAAA Region 3B recap Sept. 26, 2012
Academy of Richmond County moved up to 256 from 305 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAAA Region 3B. A 17-7 win over Glenn Hills helped the Musketeers improve their standing.
Burke County was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Statesboro 35-14. The Bears came in at 21 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
Hephzibah's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chris Hall threw for 46 yards and Marcus Smith had 28 yards receiving. On the ground Smith chipped in 31 yards. Darrell Baker helped Hephzibah's passing attack out by catching one ball for 18 yards.
The Spartans' Santo Nina and Earlmonquez Cobb have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Nina has thrown for 243 yards this season, while Cobb has five catches for 154 yards. Smith from the Rebels leads the league in rushing with 149 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Cross Creek takes on Burke County. At the moment, the Razorbacks are in fifth, while the Bears are in first.
Academy of Richmond County was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to second in AAAA Region 3B. Earlier in the week, the Musketeers triumphed over Glenn Hills 17-7.
