The Westlake Thunder will head out to challenge the Lehi Pioneers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Westlake's win against Skyridge wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Thunder narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Falcons 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Thunder have posted since March 8th.
Westlake had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 19-25, 29-27, 27-25, 15-12.
Meanwhile, Lehi entered their tilt with American Fork on Tuesday with nine consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with ten. They put the hurt on the Cavemen with a sharp 3-0 victory.
The final score came out to 25-23, 25-16, 25-22.
Westlake better focus on containing Ty Reynolds and Santiago Hernandez as the pair were huge in Lehi's win. Reynolds had seven digs, two aces, and one block, while Hernandez had 11 digs. Reynolds has been hot for a while, having also posted 13 or more assists the last 34 times he's played.
Westlake has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Lehi, they pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything went Westlake's way against Lehi in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Westlake made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunder since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
