If the Avoca-Prattsburgh Titans were riding high off their 60-36 takedown of the Arkport Central/Canaseraga Wolves last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Avoca-Prattsburgh took a 61-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wellsville on Monday. Avoca-Prattsburgh was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Wellsville apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Avoca-Prattsburgh lost, one person who can't be blamed is Macoy Putnam. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with seven assists and four steals. Putnam is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Collin Hammond, who scored six points along with 13 rebounds.
Avoca-Prattsburgh has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for Wellsville, their victory bumped their record up to 3-7.
Avoca-Prattsburgh will be playing at home against Canisteo-Greenwood at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Canisteo-Greenwood presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Avoca-Prattsburgh in New York (Canisteo-Greenwood is ranked 184th, while Avoca-Prattsburgh is ranked 378th). Wellsville on the road again on Monday and play against Avoca Central at 2:00 p.m. on January 15th.
