The Christ the King Royals and the Archbishop Stepinac Crusaders (ranked 26 and 13 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile contest. Christ the King was outmatched by the Crusaders on the road and fell 99-64. Christ the King has struggled against the Crusaders recently, as their game on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Boogie Fland was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 4 assists for Archbishop Stepinac. Fland is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Carbuccia, who scored 12 points along with eight assists and two steals.
Christ the King's loss dropped their record down to 16-4. As for Archbishop Stepinac, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.
Christ the King is on the road again on Saturday and plays the at 3:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Monroe Campus will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 193rd, while the Royals are ranked fourth). As for Archbishop Stepinac, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Eagle at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. One thing working in Eagle Academy II's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests.
