The Baker County Wildcats have not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They walked away with a 62-54 win over Union County on Saturday. This was payback for Baker County, who suffered a 58-55 loss the last time these two teams met.
Baker County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaeveon Reed out in front who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Dawson Norman was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Despite the loss, Union County still got an impressive performance from Gavin Jenkins, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Thomas Williams, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Union County were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Baker County only posted six assists.
Baker County's victory bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Union County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.
Baker County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Bradford at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. As for Union County, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Interlachen at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Interlachen focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Friday.
