A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats duke it out with the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
If Dunwoody beats Archer with three runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Dunwoody beat Mount Paran Christian on Saturday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-1. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Dunwoody got a great performance from Grayson Zinkand as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk).
At the plate, Dunwoody saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Abbott, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. John Kosobud also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Archer gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Mount Vernon, sneaking past 7-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Ryan McCallion looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit every time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Grant Thurmond was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Apollo Bailey was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Dunwoody's record now sits at 3-1. As for Archer, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dunwoody has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Archer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Dunwoody skirted past Archer 1-0 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Dunwoody since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
