Baseball Recap: Concord Comes Up Short

If Concord was riding high fresh off their 17-2 takedown of Shirley on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Concord Pirates took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Norfork Panthers on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost seven in a row.

Braxton Whitener was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Whitener is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chad Mansfield, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Concord's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Norfork, they pushed their record up to 2-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Concord will square off against Calico Rock at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Calico Rock has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.6 runs per game on average), something Concord will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Norfork, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Norfork Panthers challenge Marshall Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
