After flying high against the Lake City Panthers last Tuesday, the Lakewood Gators came back down to earth. Lakewood fell 51-42 to Darlington on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Lakewood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 181st, while Darlington is ranked 33rd).
Despite the loss, Lakewood still got an impressive performance from Cedric Cisse, who scored 17 points. Cisse hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Kameron Brown, who scored nine points.
Lakewood's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Darlington, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 16-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakewood will face off against Crestwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Crestwood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 matches -- so hopefully Lakewood likes a good challenge. As for Darlington, they will head out on the road to face off against Lake City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Lake City: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Darlington has snatched up six consecutive wins on the road.
