The West Jones Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pearl River Central Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Jones has eight straight victories, Pearl River Central has 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
West Jones put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Forest Hill 42-0 on the road. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for West Jones' two-point performance the contest before.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 46-6, which was the final score in Pearl River Central's tilt against Hattiesburg on Friday. While losing is never fun, Pearl River Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Hattiesburg is ranked 21st).
West Jones' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.8 points per game. As for Pearl River Central, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
West Jones came out on top in a nail-biter against Pearl River Central in their previous matchup back in September of 2014, sneaking past 31-29. Will West Jones repeat their success, or does Pearl River Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
