The Triton Hawks will head out on the road to take on the Westover Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Triton comes in on four and the Wolverines on ten.
Even though Triton has not done well against the Bulldogs recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Triton pulled ahead with a 60-59 photo finish over the Bulldogs. Given Triton's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 506th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Triton relied on the efforts of Ahmad Morris, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds, and Romello Pegues, who scored 17 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Morris has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Will Watson, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Westover didn't have too much trouble with the Trojans on the road on Tuesday as they won 65-46.
Triton's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Westover, their victory bumped their record up to 16-1.
Triton suffered a grim 79-57 defeat to the Wolverines when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Westover's Ari Fulton, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Now that Triton knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
