Kelton Bodily and CJ Husted were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Bodily tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Husted struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Bodily got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Husted went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Bodily has become a key player for Melba: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-10 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ty Aggen, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Parma didn't have quite enough to beat New Plymouth on Monday and fell 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Panthers have suffered against the Pilgrims since March 12, 2021.
Parma saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Silas Kling, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Melba's victory bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Parma, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Melba has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Parma struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Melba couldn't quite finish off Parma in their previous meeting two weeks ago and fell 3-1. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
