Basketball Recap: Izaiah Bacchus' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Island Coast over Labelle

After flying high against Marco Island Academy last Saturday, Island Coast came back down to earth. The Island Coast Gators took a 57-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the LaBelle Cowboys/Cowgirls on Thursday. The Gators were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cowboys/Cowgirls earlier this season, when they won 50-48.

Island Coast's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Izaiah Bacchus, who posted 20 points. That's the most points Bacchus has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jermiah Oliveras, who put up 16 points.

LaBelle's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jerrahd Williams, who had 14 points in addition to eight assists and six boards. Williams has been hot, having also posted four or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Giovanni Beaver, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds.

Island Coast's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-7. As for LaBelle, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Island Coast didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 68-48 victory against Mariner on the 10th. As for LaBelle, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 43-42 win against Lemon Bay on the 10th.
