The El Cajon Valley Braves''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Mount Miguel, falling 40-6. While losing is never fun, El Cajon Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 661st, while Mount Miguel is ranked 192nd).
Despite the loss, El Cajon Valley still got an impressive performance from Darick Dubose, who rushed for 106 yards, and also threw for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Matthew Barton had a dynamite game for Mount Miguel, throwing for 412 yards and four touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also punching in two touchdowns on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Parris Vernon, who picked up 186 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding El Cajon Valley to a paltry 246 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Mount Miguel's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Christian Lopez and Dominic DeArcos who racked up five sacks between them.
El Cajon Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Mount Miguel, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
El Cajon Valley will be playing at home against El Capitan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mount Miguel does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
