Alicia Valladarez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Isabella Paskert, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Ava Martinez, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
While Live Oak didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Prospect by a score of 7-2 on Friday.
Live Oak also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Julianna Altamirano gave up just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts gave Altamirano a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Tilly Hill was a standout: she scored a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Olivia Mixco was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Piedmont Hills pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Live Oak, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Piedmont Hills has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. However, it's not like Live Oak struggles in that department as they've averaged .507. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Piedmont Hills might still be hurting after the 8-2 loss they got from Live Oak in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Piedmont Hills have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
