If The Amsterdam Rams were feeling good off their 41-18 takedown of the Troy Flying Horses last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Amsterdam was outmatched by Columbia on the road and fell 42-6. Amsterdam was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-0.
Daniel Giamo threw for 95 yards and a touchdown while completing 76.9% of his passes. Jose Cruz was his top target, gaining 131 total yards and a touchdown.
AJ Ficarra went supernova for Columbia, rushing for 170 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Ficarra was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 68 yards. Dylan Maychack was another key contributor, throwing for 109 yards and two touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes.
Amsterdam's defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-2 Bethlehem Central and 6-3 Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.3% over those games). As for Columbia, their win bumped their record up to 4-4.
Amsterdam does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Columbia will head out on the road to face off against Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
