AAA Region I recap Oct. 16, 2012
Matt Williams and Keinan Lewis provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Seneca. The connection was good for 99 yards, the longest such play in AAA Region I this season.
Wren was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. Earlier in the week, the Hurricanes triumphed over Walhalla 44-0.
Belton-Honea Path's dynamic duo of Williams and Lewis proved tough for the Bobcats to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Williams threw for 422 yards and two touchdowns and Lewis had 214 yards receiving. Eric Boggs helped Belton-Honea Path's passing attack out by catching one ball for 83 yards.
Levi Bufford was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 159 yards on 13 carries as Wren bested Seneca. Teammate Jacob Clary added to the ground attack by rushing for 63 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Clary of Jeff Tate's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1481. He has also thrown 11 touchdowns. On the ground, Belton-Honea Path's Korey Thompson has rushed for 985 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dorian Raines. The Seneca star has 55 catches for 1043 yards.
Thompson of the Russell Blackston's team is only 15 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Wren takes on the Bears. As it stands, the Hurricanes are in second, while Belton-Honea Path is in fourth.
Daniel extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Emerald, 37-34. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Lions.
