Basketball Game Preview: Lowell Red Devils vs. Munster Mustangs

Lowell is 1-9 against Munster since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lowell Red Devils will take on the Munster Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Lowell's defense has only allowed 23.6 points per game this season, so Munster's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Lowell took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They slipped by Kankakee Valley 33-32. Given the Red Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Kougars are ranked 240th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lowell relied on the efforts of Elysia Laub, who posted six points along with 18 boards and six blocks, and Gatlin Hanrath, who put up eight points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Laub a new career-high in rebounds.

Meanwhile, Munster strolled past East Chicago Central with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 52-35. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Lowell's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.2 points per game. As for Munster, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-4.

Lowell took their victory against Munster in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 53-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lowell since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
