Dwyer (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) two-way star Matt Elam has committed to Florida State, according to a report in the Palm Beach Post.
Elam previously verbally committed to Florida.
The change comes less than a week after Urban Meyer first announced he was stepping down as head coach of Florida, before later deciding to take a leave of absence. Elam is the first recruit to decommit from Florida after Meyer's announcement.
Playing both linebacker and running back for Dwyer, Elam led the Panthers to a 14-1 season and a 4A state championship. In the title game, a 42-14 rout of previously unbeaten Niceville, Elam rushed for 187 yards and three touchdowns to help give Dwyer its first title in program history.
On the season, Elam rushed for 1,880 yards and 27 touchdowns. At linebacker, he amassed 75 tackles. He projects to play safety in college.
The No. 14 ranked player in the 2010 Top 100 according to Tom Lemming, Elam joins a recruiting class that has been on a recruiting tear since head coach Bobby Bowden announced his retirement. The Seminoles have also recently added St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) athlete Lamarcus Joyner and Treasure Coast (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) linebacker Jeff Luc, also members of the Top 100.
