Dove Creek has been on the road for three straight, but on Monday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Telluride Miners at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Dove Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Dove Creek didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Dolores, but they still walked away with a 48-42 win. The win was just what Dove Creek needed coming off of a 53-32 defeat in their prior match.
Dove Creek found their leader in underclassman Josh Kibel, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Chadd, who scored six points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Telluride unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 61-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Nucla. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Grayson Berry, who scored 19 points. He hasn't dropped below 17 points for three straight games. Townes Merritt was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Dove Creek's victory bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Telluride, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5.
Dove Creek came up short against Telluride in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 34-23. Can Dove Creek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
