Basketball Recap: Excel Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Excel Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 52-51 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mercy Prep Academy Royals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Royals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 72-69 back in December of 2024.

Excel Christian Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaiden Ward, who posted 20 points. Ward's evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jay Wyatt Hoskins, who put up 13 points.

Mercy Prep Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Eli Lawson out in front who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. That's the most points Lawson has posted since back in November of 2024. Bradley Lewis was another key player, putting up seven points along with nine boards and five assists.

Excel Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Mercy Prep Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 16-6.

Excel Christian Academy has already played their next contest, a 67-39 win against Waco Christian on the 15th. As for Mercy Prep Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 49-39 defeat against Grayson Christian on the 15th.
