Softball Recap: Bishop Wins Going Away Against Calhoun

Bishop never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Calhoun Sandcrabs with a sharp 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Badgers, who have now won five matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Cambrie Rios made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Alida Garcia was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kalie Garza, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Bishop was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in five consecutive games.

Bishop is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. Calhoun is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop will host San Benito at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Bishop is facing San Benito at the right time seeing as San Benito is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Calhoun, they will square off against Ingleside at 6:30 p.m. on March 11th.
